Once when I was blind
You asked me to lead you
Your confidence in me gave me purpose
Washed away my self-doubt
Illuminated my sight
Lost my voice
Couldn’t speak a syllable
You asked me for advice
Emancipated my mouth
Once a babbling brook
Of words and constellations
That fed many lifetimes
Lost my hearing
You asked me to listen
To you cry and sing lullabies
In the same anthem of need
And fulfilment
Revealed how embracing sound
Expanded limitations
In the present
Taking you to new plateaus
Lost my dexterity
To touch
You asked me to dance
With my vestiges
Write you
Letters that tell the stories
Of our ancestors
Trace their faces in
Our islands
Connect us to faraway lands
That we travel
With our mind’s eye
Lost my smell
You asked me to bake
Jamaican Johnny Cakes
That Grandma use to make
Sunday mornings
Ushered back
The good ole days
In my nostrils
The scent of the past preserved me
Lost my taste buds
You asked me to catch
The salty tears of children
And fashion them into smiles
Build my palate on
Your journeys
Your rebirth
Your victories
Life now
Tastes so good
Found better
Than what I lost
Eons ago
In the physical realm
Now I celebrate
All my senses
In the light
And the darkness
Cheers to you
My soul.

Wonderful thoughtful posts!
Beautifully woven. Carefully selected vocabulary to give rich meaning. The top image adds to the meaning of the poem. I must read it another couple of times for finer details. You know how to do the job well. GB!
